The Rebel
10”x10”, Acrylic on Cradled Wood
Part of the Cheerleader series.
Life is not static, it has its ups and downs and sometimes throws you sideways. It’s not easy to go-it-alone, so wouldn’t it be great if we had a team at the ready to be there with us and for us for whatever comes at us? This is where the Cheerleader series finds its purpose.
As I painted this series of portraits I was thinking about how all of us could benefit from a personal support squad. When you have a group of close friends, you usually encounter a variety of personalities with character traits that, in their totality, make life quite colorful and exciting. You may have a friend that pushes you to do the things you are afraid of. You may have one that nurtures you when you feel like crap. There may be one that always has your back and defends you, there may be one that can show you how to live with grace, and there may be that one that brings out the naughty in you. We have friends that we call to share good news with and some that can talk us out of making a bad decision. These are our Cheerleaders. When they cannot be there for us in the physical sense, we can still count on these personalities to be present in the back of our minds and keep us supported and strong.
